The lymphatic system is one of the body’s is one of the body’s natural defence mechanisms. It is made up of organs such as the spleen, bone marrow, thymus, tonsils and adenoids. They are connected by a network of vessels and pass through nodes (filtering system) which are found all of the body, particularly under the neck, underarms and groin area.
The lymphatic system removes excess fluid from tissues back into the blood circulation. It protects the body by sending white blood cells in the lymph to areas of infection. It delivers nutrients to the cells and removes toxins away from the cells around the body. Another important job it does is absorbing fat from the intestine back into the blood circulation.
What is Manual lymphatic drainage?
The massage is very light as the lymphatic system is just under the skin, so very little pressure is required. The motion encourages collection of lymph and allows the lymph to move more freely around the body. This in turn cleanses the body of wastes and toxins, improving immunity and the body’s natural healing time. This is very relaxing, most people fall asleep or go into a deep state of relaxation.
